New Streaming (Dis)Service

OPINION

So the Animation previews was shown today, yeah they look good and the five minute Angels of Death trailer had me excited; until they announced that it was going to be on there own streaming service. Warhammer +. I hope this is a joke. Streaming is big business, we all know this. Netflix, Disney +, Amazon prime, etc, etc. Make billions every year. Warhammer plus feels like a money grab, a big one too. Netflix has 542 shows and 2425 movies, in the UK. I pay £9.99 for that. So Warhammer plus is going to have 11 at what price? Crunchyroll (OK I like Anime) is £4.99 for premium service, which means no ads and earlier access or free if you don't mind the adverts. Which I don't. Yet that is for over 1200 shows. Disney + over 7000 at a £5.99 a month or £59.99 a year. Do you see where I am going with this? Warhammer plus, feels like a cash grab. With so many other services, offering so much more. There is little reason to get it other than exclusivity. Netflx and Amazon also have to compete with physical sales too, (I'd say disney + too, but the money all goes to the same place).

They do say there is going to be far more, but the lowest number on a streaming service I have seen (read: Watch) is Shudder at 300 and that is a niche streaming service for horror fans. So if we take that as the number of shows that we are getting, which is generous. Why show only 3.67% of the totality.

These streaming services didn't just appear right? No. Disney is almost a 100 years old so even before the acquisition of Marvel and Star Wars they had a huge library. Netflix strted as a DVD on demand service and Amazon prime video was Lovefilm another DVD on demand service prior to streaming. The major players have, not only insight but a library and brand recognition behind them. Warhammer Plus does not. Let's also remember that they only foray in to feature Ultramarines, with a stellar cast including John Hurt only got 39% on Rotten Tomatoes. Personally I think Games Workshop should have gone through a third party to distribute their animations.

I cannot see any value in subscribing, exclusive or not. With the competition being far superior why would you add another service. With knowledge of only less the than 10% content than it lowest rival?
