Even the Purist can be Corrupted

Wow twenty years, the years have flown by. Warhammer monthly was the best comic you could buy at the time. Easily surpassing anything marvel or DC were producing, the black library was not afraid to take risks. So they did with a corrupted of the near infallible sisters of battle with Daemonifuge.

The story of Ephrael Stern's downfall to chaos started back in 1998, written by Jim Campbell and illustrated by Kev walker; then using the a modern type called digital art. Never heard of it either. First appearence in warhammer monthly number four. Black Library we need this back with the current state of comic book industry.( #comicsgate #warcampaign). I digress, The series opens with Ephrael Stern, a Seraphim of the Adepta Sororitas, in captivity on Ophelia VII. She’s the last survivor of a strike force who were slaughtered by servants of Chaos, and this experience has apparently driven her completely mad. She’s covering the walls of her cell with heretical scrawlings and showing signs of odd powers. Naturally, this attracts the attention of the Inquisition.

The story continued in the following issues and finally collected in a complete graphic novel called: The Screaming Cage. The creative team behind Daemonifuge expanded to add Gordon Rennie, Karl Richardson, and Chris Quilliam, and quickly became one of the popular comic strips from Warhammer Monthly to receive the ultimate accolade –Ephrael Stern and Silas Hand got their very own miniatures!A very limited-edition diorama was cast from white metal (remember that, fine cast was better in many ways.) around 2001 and made available to readers of Warhammer Monthly.

And of course with any good book the sequel followed,Lord of Damnation, was collected and published in 2002. The story continues as Stern struggles to understand the forbidden knowledge she possesses and how she came by it. What’s clear is that agents of Chaos are trying to capture, kill her or just give her lots of cake. It's chaos who are we to judge. As are Silas Hand’s rival Inquisitors, that we know is to brutally murder her. Ephrael goes on the run, accompanied by Kyganil, whose fate seems to be inextricably intertwined with her own.

The entire Daemonifugeseries has now been lovingly colourised, and will be republished in a beautiful hardback 20th Anniversary Edition later this year. New and old fans alike will find this is the definitive format to enjoy the epic tale. Unlike the comics to be announced later this year, not published marvel but the Black library. Maybe #pencilsdown has cost more than we thought?

Of course you can't have an announcement like this without the table top getting some actio,n Ephrael Stern and Kyganil are back in action, both appearing in Psychic Awakening: Faith & Fury. But that was just a taste, because soon they will return in force, with absolutely incredible new miniatures and a role yet to play in the Psychic Awakening saga…
